Maggie Mays, Glasgow,
For those 20/30 & 40 something alternative music fans out there who are looking for a reasonably cheap night out dancing, could do worse than checking out a wee club called Maggie Mays at the Trongate in Glasgow. Its only £2 a drink and £5 entry or if your lucky enough to catch the pr girl on the corner then get yourself a free pass. Inside Maggie's its magic surroundings with comy leather sofas, a good size dancefloor, chatty bar staff, and for a change a clean toilet, but its the music thats the winner, great tunes from the 70s right through to the now, The clash, Pistols, Primal Scream, Dead Kennedys and The Stones Roses to mention a few, and the DJ, if you speak to her nicely will even take requests. Admittedly the club is still in its early days so it wasn't as busy as it should have been but hopefully once those alternative clubbers who are fed up of crap saturday night TV and the nonsense metal nights at the Cathouse get to know of this place they'll pop along and check Maggie Mays out. Its apparently open 7 nights a week for bands and club nights so go on and be a devil and live your teenage years again for a few hours.
Maggie Mays
I went to Maggie Mays after reading this blog, as i used to attend all the Goth clubs and gigs in Glasgow in the 80s. It was very disappointing. Not because the night detailed above was crap, but because the goth night wasnt on !! Dammit... The music was pop drivel and it wasnt very busy, but i will try and find out when the Goth night is on next and attend cos i miss those nights and before you take the piss... .im not that old, still got it and tremendously attractive to the ladies... So beware... Here i come lol !!!!
