Scotland - Glasgow Freegive Group

There is a wonderful organisation called Glasgow Freegive Group ( http://www.freegive.co.uk/p/glasgow.htm ). Glasgow freegive group connects people who are giving and getting unwanted items for free in their own towns. It's all about resue and keeping good stuff out of landfills, and at the same time, helping someone in your community by gifting them the items you no longer need. It's completely free to join.

Go to Glasgow Freegive Group Website at http://www.freegive.co.uk/p/glasgow.htm

Freegive group is active in all Scotland towns. Find a group near you at http://www.freegive.co.uk/sco.htm

This is a great ideal! Encouraging people to reuse and recycle things by giving them away and not sending to the garbage bin.

Tantallon Wigwams

Had been wondering what to do that was a wee bit different with the kids during Easter break and a mate recommended the Wigwams at Tantallon Caravan park in North Berwick, so having never been in a Wigwam, off we went.

It was a great couple of days, spent relaxing and messing about with the boys and the missus. I was worried about how cold it would be a night and so we brought lots of duvets and sleeping bags, but the fears were unfounded as the nights were warm and the boys found it all very exciting.

Berwick has a nice wee beach and harbour, a few pubs and a bit of shopping. Apart form that, its basically it. But the Wigwam, the beach and the company made it for me. There is a wee kids playpark in the site, but no entertainment. I reckon it could really benefit from a restaurant and some family entertainment.

Tantallon Castle is however a must visit. Its a ruin, but you can climb to the ramparts and turrets and down into the dungeon depths. My two boys loved this and thankfully, they dont seem to have their Daddy's vertigo. I was shitting myself up there let me tell you, and the steps are steep !!

So for something different and a relaxing time, the Wigwams in Tantallon North Berwick should be considered.

13 going on 40

My son and I love playing the Playstation together. One of the games we play is the Sega Mega Drive: Ultimate Collection , which is a collection of Mega Drive Games. I remember playing these games when I was a kid, and some of the classic I spent hours completing are there and still a challenge yet. There are 40 of the old classic games from some of my favourites like Sonic and Streets of Rage to Ecco his game of choice. My only criticism is that missing are a few of the all time greats like Desert Strike, Road Rash and Sensible Soccer.

Anyway I digress, PS3s and BluRay games are still too expensive to justify buying a second machine so he can play Ecco when he wants, even if corrie is on. So I hit upon another idea, instead of pretending that a PS3 is a Mega Drive, why not buy a Sega Mega Drive. Quick scout about the internet and not only did I find what I wanted at Amazon, but also managed to get my hands on those old classics the Ultimate Collection missed off. For just over £20 I managed to get a mega drive two controllers and Ecco 1 and 2. I don’t know who was grinning more when the box was delivered me or him, but now he can play those games till his heart’s content. And of course for less than £5 each I have managed to pick up all the strike games, all the road rash games, Micro Machines, Sensi Soccer and a few games I never even had as a kid. So now he can’t play Ecco for me playing Desert Strike. Anyway I’m off to save the world in Flashback.

God it’s great to be a kid again.

Transport Museum

The McCreadie transport Balamory bus at the Transport Museum GlasgowHi. I visited the Transport Museum at the weekend with my son and he loved it. Its a fantastic free day out and compared to the expense incurred at something like the Science Centre (which my wee one didnt enjoy that much), the Transport Museum is fantastic value. The canteen could be better though right enough.

The Balamory Bus is a real winner for my wee one and finding the rest of the Balamory stuff was great fun. Thanks

Transport Museum

I was just looking for some things to do with the kids (two boys, one 4 and one 2 years old) in Glasgow and surfing the net didnt help that much. We have done all the usual things in Glasgow, but i would just like to say that the favourite day out for my boys has to be the Transport Museum. Being typical boys who like cars and trains (and Balamory), the Transport Museum is a great day out. Not only is it free ( woohoo !!) but the exhibits are great and being so close to the classic cars, motorbikes, police car, prison transport van, trains etc etc is fantastic for the kids...

Transport Museum Glasgow main hall

One thing that could be bettered is the cafeteria,. The food isnt great, but hey... take your own. Thats what we do. So we sit on the platform, or the wee street and eat our sandwiches whilst gazing at the classics. Great stuff.. And when the kids get fed up and need a wee seat, visit the old cinema for Tom and Jerry........ Fantastic.....
